As we come out of our COVID shutdown into a social-distancing reality, Montréal’s theatre scene is re-emerging with new ideas and innovative ways to bring audiences back to the stage. Like the bilingual series En pointe from Tableau D’Hôte Theatre.
Since Thursday August 6th and running for 9 performances until Sunday September 27th, this episodic collection of short, bilingual plays focuses on a neighbourhood emerging from lockdown to rediscover their friends, neighbours, and surroundings—learning to adapt and resist to gentrification, new norms, fears, and their collective desire for a better future.
“Humorous, unifying, and uplifting, En pointe was conceived as a spontaneous gift for my neighbours in Pointe-St-Charles,” says playwright-director Mathieu-Murphy Perron, a resident of the Pointe. “This neighbourhood is historically known for its resilience, grit, creativity and solidarity, and we wanted to pay homage to it and its residents as we collectively undergo one of the strangest, saddest and most difficult times in our history. We all need a reason to come together and share a few laughs right now, and the plays in the En pointe series are a perfect reason to leave one’s home to safely experience something ephemeral with your neighbours, even if only for a few minutes a week.”
The secret outdoor location of each performance will only be announced by email and on social media a few hours before the event. All performances will be presented outdoors and with COVID-19 protective measures in place, thanks to the help of a Health Sector coordinator hired by Tableau D’Hôte to keep performers and audiences safe, comfortable, and entertained.
