Curtains Up on Richard Attenborough

th

Another legend has has left us.

Another great talent has passed on.  Sir Richard Attenborough, one of England’s greatest actors and one of the worlds great directors, leaves behind a legacy that will be long remembered.

Even though I will always remember him as John Hammond from the Jurassic Park movies, his credits include great turns in films like Elizabeth, Hamlet and The Sand Pebbles. But for me,  it’s his directorial efforts that truly stand out. A Bridge to Far, Cry Freedom, the under-appreciated Chaplin and his crowning achievement, the oscar winning Gandhi.

I love that his films, usually told on a grand scale, focused on social change. He showed us the likes of Steven Biko, Grey Owl, and Gandhi at work, trying to change the world for the better. Now if that’s not a legacy to be proud of, I don’t know what is.
