Big Love and Big Laughs at Centaur’s Little Willy

Little Willy is a hysterical, raunchy, and endearing adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, with a wonderful twist. The cast are the marionettes by Ronnie Burkett of The Daisy Theatre. The show is filled with risqué performances, laugh-out loud improvisations, and a nice dose of love. This show (for adults only) is a fun mix of the sublime and the ridiculous. A great tonic against the gloomy spring weather.

The marionettes are distinct from each other and with no connection to the story, with the exception of Willy (Shakespeare) himself. However, each puppet adapts themselves to tell the story. The result is a surprising group of characters who give their perspectives on this tale of woe. They advise on love, grasp for youth (in shocking ways!), and give the meaning of family. The result is not tragedy, but love and joy for the small families and friends in our lives. A lesson that the families of Verona learned too late.

Mr. Burkett breaks the fourth wall and encourages audience participation. Don’t be shy! Mr. Burkett is not only incredibly talented and funny; he has a true empathy for the story’s characters as expressed by the wide range of puppets. Even when the show goes in wild directions, it never loses its centre. The songs are sweet and the lighting is used for great dramatic effect.

The greatest love story ever told is just one story. Families and friends in all of their unique features create their own love story. And they last, long after the curtain falls.

Adult only, ages 16+
