For those who will mourn the end of Fantasia will be happy to know the Mascara and Popcorn Festival will fill the void for the many who crave the weird and wonderful.

This is a festival that encourages independent art, whether it be a performance piece, theatre or music, and indie film. It is a welcome change from the more stuffy and allegedly prestigious fests that seem to pop up every year.  At the recent press conference at pub L’ile Noir, promoting the August 15th start date, festival founder Florence Touliatos and the events spokesperson, Montreal filmmaker Patricia Chica, brought forth charisma, charm and boundless energy to the room.  Both armed with a passion for the dark and creative side of humanity, they showcased clips and trailers from this years line up of films before an enthusiastic crowd of artists and journalists.

The fest, which concludes on August 18th, includes live music, camera tutorials and indie film workshops, as well as a short film competition.  Please check them out.
