Yolande Ramsay for Curtain Up
Becky Lou is the delightful and funny star of the one-woman burlesque show “Shake”. This entertaining and colourful show mixes burlesque stripping with humourous stories that bring laughs and a sexy appreciation for a woman’s body.
Becky Lou is irreverent and self-deprecating with an endearing effect. Her dances are interspersed with stories of growing up in Australia and discovering her body and sexuality. Her stories are poignant but hilarious. She owns her sexuality and is not shy but she’s not precious either. She brings theatre, sparkle, and wit that reveals the skills for art form but also how it can be preposterous at times. Her performances are very sexy but not vulgar. She is curvaceous (thank you!), free, and proud.

She has an old Hollywood glamour and wonderful costumes with more sequins than I have seen since the figure skating at the last Winter Olympics. Her music choices are also on point for the medium.
The show is at Petit Campus which has a cabaret feel and atmosphere. And the audience should not feel shy about sitting up front!
“Shake” is a fun, sexy, and heart-warming spectacle. Becky Lou’s charm and humour bring substance to an already entertaining art form.
All shows are for 18 years and over.
