MainLine Theatre Launches the Online This is Not a Fringe Festival

It’s no secret that the guidelines imposed by the COVID crisis have hit Montreal’s culture community particularly hard. But where there’s creativity, there’s always a way.

With the 30th annual Fringe Fest put off until 2021, MainLine Theatre has worked hard to fill the gap with an innovative and socially distant online lineup of art, theatre, dance, music, magic, storytelling, and activities for kids—aptly titled Ceci n’est pas un Fringe ::: This Is Not a Fringe Festival.

From June 11 to 21, 2020, tune in to local arts in a whole new way, and join fellow Montrealers and people from around the world for 11 days of curated events in English and French.

“Just because we’re pressing the pause button on the Fringe doesn’t mean that we can’t gather,” says Amy Blackmore, MainLine’s Executive and Artistic Director. “I’m looking forward to encouraging artists and audiences to connect in new and exciting ways.”

The Festival’s Signature Series includes free and paid events, including Zoom hangouts, livestreams, and interactive games. The opening concert kicks off June 11, followed by such events as Being Brown is my Superpower, QDF Coffee Time, Smut Slam, Lipsynch Bingo, and CROWD KARAOKE.

Tune in for a daily dose of Fringe with tiny artistic presentations like contemporary dance videos, magic, short stories, and online challenges.

The Transformation Series includes a selection of talks from speakers across the country, covering topics important to the artistic community: making art, green theatre, work-life balance, and much more.

Plus MiniFringe activities made for kids will keep the littlest ones happy and creative, with theatre, music, puppetry, dance, crafts, drag queen storytime, and much more.
