Boy Falls From The Sky is a sweet, hilarious, and entertaining musical about the real-life roller coaster journey into show business by its star, Canadian actor/singer Jake Epstein. This is not a cautionary tale about the pit falls of the entertainment industry, a story we have seen many times before. Mr. Epstein’s story is much more heartfelt, joyful, and hopeful.
The story revolves around Mr. Epstein’s love for musicals, formed through childhood family trips to New York to see Broadway shows. This passion leads him to drama school and roles on Canadian television, including Degrassi: The Next Generation. Yet, he never lost his dream to star in the opening of a new Broadway show. The road is long but Mr. Epstein shares his crazy adventures in auditions, national tours of musicals, and the excitement and actual pain of performing the lead in Broadway shows such as Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark. He shares fun tidbits about famous artists he met. He is very engaging, funny, and performs his stories with lots of energy. He is very open about the setbacks that he had and slowly came to see them as speed bumps instead of walls.
Mr. Epstein’s story is about love: love of performing, love of music, love for his family, love of taking risks and their unexpected victories. His passion is infectious and brings delight to the audience. He is accompanied by a terrific live band performing songs from well-known musicals reflecting the different periods of his career and life. You cannot help but clap along and snap your fingers.
Not everything in life can be controlled. But we can choose how to respond to challenges. Just a long we bring that old razzle dazzle.
